Tendou Satori x Reader "TENDOU!" A booming voice causes the entire confectionery shop to quake. Patissiers almost crushed their croissants. Confiseurs nearly lumped their lollipops. Glaciers were close to sabotaging their sorbets. Shivers ran up the spine of the only chocolatier in the shop, Tendou Satori. He frigidly turns over his shoulder as his crazed eyes are wider than usual. "Y-Yes, Manager?" He stutters our before harshly gulping. The bakery manager, not even nearly close to matching Tendou's height, aggressively storms over to him to instantly make him feel small. "You're testing my patience again, Tendou. You really want me to fire you that badly, huh?" "I-I-I don't know what you m-mean, Manager." Tendou's pupils bounce around while he nervously looks anywhere except at his boss. His long slender fingers are extended in front of him like a defensive shield. His manager gets as much in Tendou's face as they can. Tendou lets out a quiet yap in response. "Does it look like I don't know what I'm talking about, Tendou?" They growl in the face of the boy with shaved red hair. "Do I seem like a lunatic to you?" "Well, a-actually, lunatics can come in any shape or form. You can n-never tell who's a lunatic these days–" Tendou begins to go on one of his unhinged rants. However, a quick glance at his glaring boss puts an end to that real quick. "I mean...no, Manager! Not at all!" The manager squints at Tendou for a little longer as they keep a scowl on him. "How many times do I have to talk to you about your chocolates, Tendou?" They gruffly inquire. Tendou salutes the manager, his great height standing tall. "Tell me as many times as you have to so I can improve my chocolates, Manager!" His posture is knocked down with a whack of a wooden spoon from the manager, who sighs and rests their hands behind their back. "Quit being such a smartass, kid." They turn beside Tendou to direct their attention to the chocolatier's confections. "I've told you again and again that we can't sell these." The manager reaches towards Tendou's tray and picks up one of his chocolates. The chocolate is held up between them for the two of them to inspect together. "See? What the hell is this?" The manager pivots their wrist a few times to showcase the creation at different angles. It's a slightly larger chocolate than the usual ones sold here. It has unnecessary appendages like arms and antennaes. Even tiny formations of eyes and a mouth are seen on its front. Tendou strikes a wild pose, pointing his lanky fingers at the confection. "Why, that's the sidekick in my favorite anime right now!" He announces in a silly impression of an action narrator. "Whenever the hero is in a pinch, the sidekick from another world always knows how to–" "Let me stop you right there." The manager puts their hand up to signal Tendou's halt. "I don't care." They then set the little chocolate monster down in the display case with its many replicas. "We can't sell these, Tendou." "But, I just thought the kids would love to–" "This isn't some candy shop, Tendou. We're a high-class confectionary. If kids want fun chocolates they can go to the convenience store down the street, but not here." Tendou's shoulders droop and he nods with his head hung low. "Yes, Manager..." The manager lets out another sigh and places their hands on their hips, contemplating a bit. Then, they give Tendou a stern look. "Listen, I'll let you keep these out this time as a trial basis." They take a brief moment to look around the shop. They observe the other bakers, shaping and decorating the exact same plain way they've been doing for years. "Maybe...it is time we start experimenting a bit." Their eyes dart back to Tendou who straightens up quite a bit at the eye contact. "If they don't sell out by the end of the day, you're in deep shit. If they do, I'll consider having you do...more things like this. Now, I'm allowing it this time because I recognize you as a fine chocolatier. But just because you're talented doesn't mean you're not replaceable. So stop screwing around and doing things without consultation first. Got it?" Tendou can't stop himself from letting his creepy smile widen as his cheeks turn red. "You won't regret it, Manager! I'll do my best! These will get sold!" As the manager reluctantly heads off to survey the rest of the shop's progress, Tendou diligently stands by his chocolate creations the rest of the day. However, a couple of hours pass and no one takes even the slightest bit of interest in his unique goods. The day is still young, but the amateur chocolatier is beginning to lose hope. As Tendou's thoughts are occupied by possible alternatives after he gets fired, he hears an excited gasp. He lifts his sights to see a customer happily gawking at the display case. Your eyes twinkle as you lean close to glass. "Wow! I can't believe they have this character! I didn't think they sold stuff like this here!" Tendou stares at you in disbelief. Such an attractive person is so engulfed by his chocolates. Not only that, but it seems that you know what the chocolate is modeled after. This combined with your good looks causes blood to rush right to Tendou's cheeks. "You know who this is?" Your eyes glide from the sweets up to the baker on the other side of the counter. And right when you lock eyes with Tendou, he's sure he might melt on the spot like chocolate on a hot summer day. "Of course I do!" Your smile widens, thus skyrocketing the chocolatier's heartrate. "I love this series!" Your eyes start bouncing around the shop. "Who made these? Was it you?" Tendou begins to shake nervously like a chihuahua. He's sure his crazed eyes and devilish grin don't help his case of being less intimidating. But he parts his lips to try to respond to you. "Uh–" "What are you looking at, [Name]?" A dainty voice is heard from below that interrupts Tendou. He leans over the counter and spots a little girl clinging to you and gripping your shirt. As she is looking up at you, she glances at the man peering at her from great heights. She yelps and sidesteps so she's behind your leg, only peeking out at him with quivering eyes. You look down at the girl, oblivious to her fear of the villainous-looking baker, and beam at her. "Here, have a look!" You bend down and hook your hands under the little girls arms. Then you lift her up until she's eye-level with the chocolates display case. The child's eyes fade away from fear and ease into bewilderment. Her eyes widen and her mouth is agape. "C–...Cool!" She exclaims joyously. She whips her head around to look at you with similar sparkling eyes. "[Name]!" You chuckle at the girl's excitement and nod. "Yup, it's our favorite character from our favorite series!" Tendou wipes the surprise off his face and puts on his customer service expression. "Th-That's so nice that you & your daughter watch this series together..." You raise an eyebrow. "Us? Oh, we're–" The little girl squeals and even wiggles her arms & legs. "Should we get these ones for Mommy, [Name]?" Your attention is back to the toddler in your hands. "Ah, no, they're cute but I don't think your mom will like them." You set the child down on her feet. "My sister's always been a pink & frilly type of girl so we should get her something else." Hearing this answer puts a pout on the girl's face and she stomps her foot on the ground in defiance. "Ah. Niece." Tendou deduces. He smirks and leans forward on the counter. "Excuse me, Miss." He calls to the child. She cautiously looks up at him. "If you go a couple counters to the left, there are some delicious miniature cakes that your mother would love. They may not be as cool as my chocolates, but you should be shopping with your mother in mind." You crouch down and balance on the balls of your feet, smiling tenderly at your niece. "He's right, you know." Tendou can't help but feel a flutter in his stomach at the sight of your soft expression and soothing voice. "Remember, this is your mom's birthday, not yours." The little girl keeps her pout, but she nods in understanding. "They're just...so cool..." "Hey." You ruffle her hair. "I didn't say we couldn't buy any chocolates." You smirk as the child beams. "I just said your mom wouldn't like them." "So we can have some of these chocolates? You really mean it, [Name]?" "Of course, kiddo." The two of you flash thumbs-up at each other and snicker. You get back to your feet and grin at Tendou, causing his heart to skip a beat. "You said you made these chocolates?" Tendou glances around to see if there's someone else you're talking to and is exhilarated to realize you're speaking directly to him. "Y-Yeah, I did. It's my favorite series, too." "That's so cool!" Your praise catches him completely off-guard. You were like an angel sent to him right when he was about to give up on these chocolates. "They're such a unique way to sculpt chocolate that I've never seen before." You continue spewing words of affirmation that shoot Tendou like Cupid's arrows. "You're really talented!" Tendou becomes flustered and sheepishly scratches the back of his head. "Th-thank you. But, to be honest, my chocolates aren't doing very well..." "Seriously?" Your eyebrows raise in surprise. "That's a shocker, who wouldn't be drawn in by these chocolates?" "Well, we are a high-class confectionary so these won't really–" "Screw that." You calmly interject before apologizing to your niece for the crass language. "Do you like them..." Your eyes dart to the name tag on his chest. "Do you like them, Tendou?" Tendou is taken aback by this question. "I do, but–" "Then who cares?" You say without a second thought. "You gave these chocolates your all and you're proud of them. People recognize passion like that. I know we do." You glance down at the toddler at your side who vigorously nods in agreement. "That's right, Mister. Your chocolates are the best thing I've ever seen!" You give your own nods. "Exactly. And that's why we're going to buy some." You slap down some money on the countertop and grin victoriously. Tendou oggles at the amount. "We'll take however much this will get us." "That's, like...enough for half the chocolates here!" Tendou outbursts. You put on a smug face. "Perfect." The chocolatier sputters for a bit, completely frazzled by this chain of events. It feels almost like a fever dream. Eventually, he notices the determination in your eyes and simply begins packing the character chocolates for you. He holds out a neat box on the counter and tries to put on a friendly smile, but he's sure it's his regular devilish sneer. "Here you are." You & your niece pay no attention to the frightening expression of the chocolatier. You're both just so excited to get the chocolates. Your niece is especially impatient and immediately swipes a chocolate from the box, despite your efforts to stop her so she doesn't spoil her appetite. The girl pops the sweet in her mouth and lets the silky chocolate melt on her tongue. She gives a sound of bliss as she gets every explosion of flavor. "So good!" She finally says with a full mouth. "Glad to hear, Miss." Tendou strikes a funny pose that makes your niece giggle. "Tendou." His name so casually off your lips makes him shiver. "Thank you so much." "It's...[Name], right?" You nod. Tendou grins and bows slightly. "I should be thanking you, [Name]. For giving my chocolates a chance." "Well, I guess it's just fate." You softly speculate. "You see, she's with me a lot since both her parents work really long hours and sometimes have to travel. I really like anime so she watches some shows with me when she's over, and we bonded over this particular one because she really likes how the sidekick looks. We don't really see a lot of merchandise based off this series. So it was like the universe told us to come here today, you know?" "Well, I'm glad fate brought you two here to my chocolates." You chuckle and Tendou can't help but appreciate the song of your laughter. "You're a bit strange and your chocolatier methods are even more odd. But you're incredibly sweet & charming, aren't you?" So much blood rushes to Tendou's face from the sheer happiness and he even worries he might get a nosebleed from how cute you are towards him. "Th-Th-Th-Th-That's so kind of you to say!" He tries to play it off cool but he's way too excited so his laughs come off as uneasy. But you don't seem to mind. "I hope that charm gets people to buy the rest of these chocolates or else I'm in big trouble with my manager..." "They'll be gone in no time! I'm telling all my friends!" Your niece flings herself at the counter and hoists her tiny body up as much as she can to insert herself into the conversation. You smile and pet the child on her head. "We forgot to mention that Little Miss Popular somehow persuaded the rest of her class to get into the series." You shoot a wink at Tendou. "So I'm sure once she gets the word out today, your chocolates are done for." Absentmindedly, Tendou clasps your hands in his. "[Name], the two of you are angels sent to me from above!" He dramatically proclaims. "Thank you!" The sudden contact causes you to blush, but you don't say anything or pull away quite yet. You simply smile. "Do you do other anime characters?" Tendou's eyebrow twitches. "W-Well, see, this is all trial basis so I'm not really–" In the middle of Tendou's response, you pull your hands away. You pull a pen from your bag and snatch one of the napkins piled on the counter. You smooth out any wrinkles before scribbling on the napkin. When you're finished, you hold it out to Tendou. "Here." The redhead takes the napkin in his hands and examines it. Turns out, you've written a series of numbers on it. He reads them over & over again as he turns bright red from head to toe. "Call me when you make new chocolates. We want to be the first customers." You show him a sincere smile as your own cheeks start to redden. "What is it that you were saying, Tendou?" Shivers once again travel throughout Tendou's body and his lips curl up. "I-I was just saying...come back any time and I'll make whatever characters you want!" He then strikes one of the famous poses from the show. But he is immediately filled with regret thinking about how stupid he must look. However, relief hits him as you & your niece strike the same exact pose with little to no remorse. Tendou feels his body heat up so much he's scared he might melt the chocolate. So this is what true love must be.
